What is trichiasis ?
• It is anomalies of position eyelashes.
• The inward misdirected of cilia with normal position of lid margin.
• The inward turning of lashes along with the lid margin is called as pseudotrichiasis.
What is Causes of trichiasis ?
• Trachoma
• Bephritis
• Healed membranous conunctivitis
• Hordeolum externum
• Mechanical Injury
• Burn
• Operative scar on ld margin
What is Symptoms of trichiasis ?
• FB Sensation
• Photophobia
• Irritation
• Pain
• Lacrimation
What is Sign of trichiasis ?
• Misdirected cilia touching the cornea.
• Blepharospasm
• Photohobia occur when cornea is abraded
• Conjunctiva may be congested
Complication of Trichiasis
• Recurrent corneal abrasion
• Superficial corneal opacity
• Corneal vascularisation
• Non healing corneal ulcer
Treatment of Trichiasis
• Epilation
• Electrolysis
• Cryoepilation
• Surgical correction
Epilation
•Mechanical removal with forceps
• Its is temporary method as recurrent occurs within 3-4 weeks.
Electrolysis
• It is method of eyelashes follicle by electric current.
• In electrolysis infiltration anesthesia is given to the lid
• 2 mA current is passed for 10 second through a fine needle inserted in to the eyelashes root.
• Loosened cilia then remove with epilation forceps
Cryoepilation
• It is effective method for treating trichiasis.
• In electrolysis infiltration anesthesia is require
• The cryoprobe with -20 degree applied for 20-25 second to external lid margin. • Its main disadvantages is depigmentaion of the skin.
Surgical correction for Trichiasis
• When many cilia are misdirected operative treatment similar to entropin is performed
